Remembering Wallace “Wally” Elmer Davenport, Jr.
July 21, 1942 – July 30, 2023
The Davenport family suffered great heartache with the loss of a wonderful husband, dedicated father, and Grandfather, an amazing friend to so many. At the age of 81, Wallace “Wally” Davenport departed this life and made his heavenly ascension, leaving behind a legacy of love, honor, and commitment to his family and church. Honest, Trustworthy, Patient, Kind, Perfect Husband, Hero, The Man, Dad, and Paw are just a few words that describe Wally. He was born in Richmond, VA to the late Wallace Elmer and Katherine Nethery Davenport Sr. Growing up Wally held many VA state records in Track and Football. Through the years Wally touched a lot of lives in the Wendell area, whether it was playing recreational sports, coaching little league, teaching youth Sunday school, or sharing his passion for the outdoors. Wally loved running his dogs and being the chef at Panther Branch Hunting Club for more than 30 years. He also had a passion for striper fishing on Kerr Lake and Lake Gaston with friends and family. He will be missed, but never forgotten. Along with his parents, Wally is preceded in death by his brother, Mike Davenport. Wally is survived by the love of his life of 43 years Patricia Sue Foster, his sons, Zak Davenport (Katie) and Shane Davenport (Sally), his sister, Becky Heath (Brent), his 4 grandchildren, Foster, Brady, Jackson and Davis and many others. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wendell Christian Church by clicking here. A Memorial Service was held yesterday at Wendell Christian Church.

The DWF is also selling Rada Cutlery as an ongoing fundraiser. Please see any member of DWF to look at one of the catalogs. These make great gifts and will help the DWF with our projects. Any questions, see Ann Harris or Alice Hall.

Martha’s Compassion Box
The CACS Committee sponsors WCC’s Martha’s Compassion Box. This is a “take what you need and leave what you can” compassion box for community residents. The box will house books for both children and adults, toiletries, and nonperishable food items. Individuals are welcome to contribute. Unfortunately, more has been taken lately than has been left. We still have an adequate supply of powdered milk and applesauce but are very low on other items. Please contribute what you can but NO perishables.
Welcome Back, Children!
WCC is welcoming back our children. Each Sunday we will have someone go back with the children after the children’s sermon. They will enjoy a story from their Spark Story Bible that aligns with the morning message. We would love to see your children. We have a sign-up sheet on the sanctuary piano for those willing to spend some time on a Sunday with our children. If you would like to find out more about our fall plans, please contact Summer Smith, Melanie Pepon, or Tammy Fuller.
Children’s Bible Story Videos
The Education Committee will present Bible Story videos to share with the community. We would love to have some guest readers so our children can feel connected to our entire community. Please get in touch with Tammy Fuller if you would be willing to read a story for our children. (No worries if you don’t know how to create one, our team will help you with that!) Click here for this week’s story.
