In-Person Worship – Please wear a mask

We are strongly encouraging anyone attending in-person worship at the church to wear masks upon entering and exiting the building. When seated (in family groups appropriately spread at a distance around the sanctuary) if you need to remove your mask, please do so only when seated.

In addition, please remember to keep a distance of 6 feet as you enter and exit the church. We are all aware that caution to the highest level is necessary with these new variants. If you are not feeling well or have what might be considered minor symptoms, please stay at home for your safety and the safety of others.

Guest Preacher – Sunday, December 5

Our guest preacher today is Rev. Phil Jones. Phil has helped our pastor George experience the fellowship of our Region. He was nurtured and baptized in First Christian Church, Richlands, NC where he was ordained in 1978. He holds degrees from Barton College, Texas Christian University, and Vanderbilt University. In 2018 he was awarded the Alberta Z. Brown Distinguished Minister Award for Pastoral Ministry from his alma mater Brite Divinity School. He and his wife, Cathy, live in Cary and have two adult children, Hannah and Zach.

Welcome Back, Children!

WCC is welcoming back our children. Each Sunday we will have someone go back with the children after the children’s sermon. They will enjoy a story from their Spark Story Bible that aligns with the morning message. We would love to see your children. We have a sign-up sheet on the sanctuary piano for those willing to spend some time on a Sunday with our children. If you would like to find out more about our fall plans, please contact Summer Smith, Melanie Pepon, or Tammy Fuller.

Children’s Bible Story Videos

The Education Committee will be creating Bible Story videos to share with the community throughout the summer.  We would love to have some guest readers so our children can feel connected to our entire community.  Please contact Tammy Fuller if you would be willing to read a story for our children.  (No worries if you don’t know how to create one, our team will help you with that!) Click here for this week’s story.

Board Meeting – Sunday Evening, December 5

The Nominating Committee has submitted its report for the 2022 Year. There will be a called Board meeting this evening at 7 PM via Zoom to review and approve this report.

Wednesday Morning Online Bible Study – 10:30 A.M.

(Bible study will not meet on Wednesday, December 22nd.)

The Wednesday Morning Bible Study meets Wednesday mornings at 10:30 AM. You may participate on ZOOM or in person in the Fellowship Hall. If you choose to come in person, please wear a mask. We will continue our study of Genesis. Please share this with those who do not use the computer. This is a community Bible Study so feel free to invite others to join us. Looking forward to seeing each of you on Wednesday. Led by Virginia Mora and June Phelps.

Annual Congregational Meeting – Sunday, December 12

Our Annual Congregational Meeting will be Sunday, December 12th at approximately 1:15 PM following our traditional soup/sandwich lunch. The purpose is to receive and approve the Board-approved proposed Budget and Nominating Committee Reports.

Advent Pointsettias

If you would like to place a poinsettia in the church during Advent and want to place it in memory of or in honor of someone, please get the information to Glenn Harris. If at all possible, please wrap the pot in green with a white bow.

Christmas Post Office

We have our own Post Office on a table in the Fellowship Hall. Just set your cards next to the letter of the last name of the person to whom you are sending to. Then put 25 cents per card into the donation box. We are open to larger, or smaller donations as well! Go by the table every week and pick up cards addressed to you. All the money collected will be given to the youth activity fund.

Christmas Eve Lessons & Carols, 11:00 P.M.

What sweeter music can we bring,
Than a Carol, for to sing
The Birth of this our heavenly King?
Awake the Voice! Awake the String!

You are cordially invited to join us via Zoom for our Annual Christmas Eve Service of word and song at 11:00 P.M. The prophecy and story of Jesus’ birth will be presented in word and music, including many of your favorite Christmas carols. The Service of Lessons and Carols is one of the most beautiful celebrations of the Christmas Season. You are welcome to come and join us in celebrating the Savior’s birth in this very special way.

Shaping Our Future Together in Christ

We are looking for input from each member of the congregation in order to better understand the needs and hopes among us. We would greatly appreciate your response, using the below questions as a guide:

  • What do you like about Wendell Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)?
  • What hopes do you have for Wendell Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)?
  • What challenges do you see or experience within Wendell Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)?
  • Please share any of your memories and historical knowledge of Wendell Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) that we may collect.

Please share your feedback by emailing your response to the email address published in the printed bulletin, leaving a written response on the entrance table in the sanctuary, or letting us know if you would like to speak with a team member directly. Thank you!

Martha’s Compassion Box

Please do not put perishable food items in this Compassion Box. Several perishable food items have been left recently and have been ruined in the heat and had to be thrown away. Martha’s Compassion Box is sponsored by the CACS Committee. This is a “take what you need and leave what you can” compassion box for community residents. The box will house books for both children and adults, toiletries, and nonperishable food items. Church members are welcome to contribute. Excess contributions are kept in the west wing library and put out as needed. Many thanks to Marty Greer and the handiwork of Andy Hanna for making this dream come to life.

Contact An Elder

The Elders are available to the congregation for prayer requests, suggestions, questions or concerns. Click here to send a message to one of our Church Elders.
